The safety and well-being of our customers and team members remains our highest priority. We’re working around the clock to care for you on your travel journey, and we know you’re concerned about your trip.
To provide you with more flexibility and control we have waived change fees for certain dates of travel.
Plus, if you have a ticket that is expiring between March 1 and September 30, 2020, the value of your unused ticket can be used for travel through December 31, 2021.
You may owe any difference in ticket price.
Please contact your travel agent for help if you didn't book directly with us.
You're allowed to make a change to your trip once, and the change fee will be waived. You can cancel your trip online and call later when you’re ready to rebook, including Basic Economy tickets.
Keep in mind, you may owe any difference in ticket price when you rebook your trip.
Visit the travel alerts page for information about rebooking as waivers are based on destination and dates of purchase.
You can change or cancel your trip online in just a few steps. Here’s how:
You'll need your 6-character confirmation (also called a ‘Record Locator’).
If you don't know your Record Locator, you can find it in the confirmation email you received when you booked your trip.
AAdvantage® members can log in to their account to find upcoming trips.
Choose 'Change trip' or 'Cancel trip' in the top toolbar and follow the prompts.
When you’re done, we'll send a confirmation email that includes your ticket number.
Keep this handy so you can refer to it when you call to rebook.
When you're ready to rebook your trip, please call Reservations.
American tickets have a 13-digit number that begins with '001'. Keep in mind there are separate ticket numbers for add-ons like seats, upgrades and bags.
We'll send you an email with the information you’ll need, including your ticket number. Keep this handy so you can refer to it when you call Reservations to rebook.
You may be required to self-quarantine for 14 days from the time you arrive, or the duration of your trip (whichever is shorter), if you’re traveling from certain areas within the U.S.
States have different requirements, and they’re updated often. We recommend checking with the airport in your destination city and state websites for the latest information.
U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, or visa holders arriving to the U.S from a coronavirus (Covid-19) impacted area must travel through one of 13 airports where the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has enhanced entry screening capabilities.
Foreign nationals who have traveled to these countries within the last 14 days will not be allowed to travel to the U.S.
If you’re traveling at this time, we’re here for you and are making temporary changes to the travel experience to prioritize your safety.
Curbside check-in may not be available. Be sure to check your flight status before you go to the airport, as ticket counter hours may change daily without notice.
Due to the increased flight changes, we’ve stopped checking pets for now. Carry-on pets, service and emotional support animals are still allowed to fly in the cabin if they meet the requirements.
We’ve temporarily closed and consolidated premium clubs and lounges. Operating hours for clubs that remain open may change based on flight schedules.
To further provide for social distancing on board, we’re making updates to seat assignments and food and drink service through April 30, 2020.
We’ll resume full service once the current COVID-19 situation has stabilized.
We’re making more standard seats available on the seat map and restricting access to some seats, when possible, to give you more space.
When time and flight loads permit, gate agents may move your seat as needed to help create a more comfortable environment.*
*Not guaranteed, subject to weight and balance restrictions, through May 31, 2020.
We’re limiting food and drink service in the Main Cabin based on flight length and destination. You’re welcome to bring snacks and soft drinks on board to enjoy during your flight.
*Includes transcontinental and Hawaii.
On every journey you take on American, your safety and well-being, and that of our team members, is our top priority.
Here's what we're doing to make your journey with us safe:
Download the American app for free and you can check your flight status, gate information, seats and updates on what we’re doing to keep you safe. Maintain social distancing with your mobile boarding pass and go directly through security and then to your gate. Plus, you can use the interactive airport maps to find your way through the terminal or a snack to enjoy on your flight.
We’ve partnered with the American Red Cross to raise funds for their efforts on the frontlines of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Earn 10 miles for every dollar you donate through April 30, 2020. Any amount is appreciated, but miles will only be earned for gifts of $25 or more.
