Sport Items Accepted For Travel On American Airlines
Antlers
Maximum size and weight: 126in / 320cm and 32kgs / 70lbs.
The antlers must be clean. The skull must be wrapped and the tips of the antlers protected.
Passengers must make all arrangements and assume full responsibility for complying with any applicable laws, customs, and/or other governmental regulations, requirements or restrictions of the county, state, or territory to/from which the antlers are being transported.
Transportation charge: $150.
Antlers are exempt from oversize / overweight fees. If you are checking in antlers and two bags or more, an excess baggage fee will apply in addition to the
transportation charge.
Archery Equipment
One bow, one quiver, arrows and maintenance kit.
Any items in addition to the above must be packed separately and will be subject to any applicable overweight / oversize or excess baggage charges.
Backpack/Knapsack
Backpack / knapsack with or without frame.
Bats-Baseball/Cricket
Baseball bats or cricket bats.
Bicycle
Only non-motorised bicycles are accepted for transportation.
Maximum size and weight: 126in / 320cm and 32kgs / 70lbs.
Handlebars must be fixed sideways and pedals removed. Both pedals and handlebars must be wrapped in plastic foam or similar material.
The following transportation charge applies to bicycles over 62in / 157cm (length + height + width): $150.
Bicycles are exempt from oversize / overweight fees. If you are checking in a bicycle and two bags or more, an excess baggage fee will apply in addition to the transportation charge.
Boogie Board
One boogie, skim or speed board.
Bowling Equipment
One bowling case with bowling balls and shoes.
Bowling ball cleaners that contain high amounts of acetone or alcohol over 70% in volume are considered dangerous goods and are not permitted in your checked or carry-on baggage.
Camping Equipment
One tent with or without frame and one sleeping bag.
Camping stove fuels, Sterno canned heat, matches, lighters and flares are considered dangerous goods and are not permitted in your checked or carry-on baggage.
Fishing Equipment
Two rods and one reel contained in a case and one bag with fishing tackle, landing net and fishing boots.
Maximum size and weight:
- Fishing rod case: 126in / 320cm
- Equipment bag: 62in / 157cm and 23kgs / 50lbs
For purposes of excess baggage, the combination of one case plus one bag counts as one item.
Golf Equipment
One golf bag containing no more than 14 golf clubs, 12 golf balls and one pair of golf shoes.
All equipment must fit in a single hard sided golf case. Maximum weight: 32kgs / 70lbs.
Swingless Golf Club load strips are considered dangerous goods and are not permitted in your checked or carry-on baggage.
Hang-gliding Equipment
One hang glider.
Maximum size and weight: 126in / 320cm and 32kgs / 70lbs.
Transportation charge: $150.
Hang gliding equipment is exempt from overweight / oversize fees. If you are checking in hang gliding equipment and two bags or more, an excess baggage fee will apply in addition to the transportation charge.
Hockey/Lacrosse Equipment
Hockey / lacrosse sticks and one equipment bag.
For purposes of excess baggage, the two pieces will count as one item.
Ice Skates
Boots with blades attached to the bottom.
Javelin
One spear and one case.
Maximum size and weight: 126in / 320cm and 32kgs / 70lbs.
Transportation charge: $150.
Javelins are exempt from oversize / overweight fees. If you are checking in a javelin and two bags or more, an excess baggage fee will apply in addition to the
transportation charge.
Kiteboard
Maximum size and weight: 126in / 320cm and 32kgs / 70lbs.
The following transportation charge applies to kiteboards over 62in / 157 cm (length + height + width): $150.
Kiteboards are exempt from oversize / overweight fees. If you are checking in a kiteboard and two bags or more, an excess baggage fee will apply in addition to the transportation charge. The three pieces as described above count as one piece for the purpose of excess baggage.
Kite Surfing Equipment
Maximum size and weight: 126in / 320cm and 32kgs / 70lbs.
Transportation charge: $150.
Kite surfing equipment is exempt from oversize / overweight fees. If you are checking in kite surfing equipment and two bags or more, an excess baggage fee will apply in addition to the transportation charge. The three pieces as described above count as one piece for the purpose of excess baggage.
Oars
Stand-up Paddleboard
Maximum size and weight: 126in / 320cm and 32kgs / 70lbs.
Transportation charge: $150.
Oversize / overweight fees do not apply to stand-up paddleboards. If you are checking in a stand-up paddleboard and two bags or more, an excess baggage fee will apply in addition to the transportation charge.
Pool Cue
Scuba Gear
one scuba tank, scuba regulator, tank harness and tank pressure gauge.
Regulator valve must be completely disconnected from the cylinder and the cylinder must have an opening to allow for a visual inspection inside.
Maximum size and weight: 126in / 320cm and 32kgs / 70lbs.
Transportation charge (only applies to scuba gear with tanks): $150.
Oversize / overweight fees do not apply to scuba gear. If you are checking in scuba gear and two bags or more, an excess baggage fee will apply in addition to the transportation charge. The four pieces as described above count as one piece for the purpose of excess baggage.
Skateboard
A skateboard may be carried onboard if it fits within the carry-on size / weight requirement, and you are not carrying on another bag.
Ski Equipment
Skis and a separate boot bag will be checked as one piece for charging purposes, under the following conditions:
- The separate boot bag may only contain boots/bindings
- The separate boot bag must not exceed total dimensions of 45 inches
Ski helmets are not counted as part of the ski equipment and must be checked in as part of the normal baggage allowance. Lighters or torches used to apply ski wax are considered dangerous goods and are not allowed in your checked or carry-on baggage.

- Ski boot bag: 45in/ 114cm (total dimension)
- Pair of ski: 126in / 320cm
Snowboard
Snow boards and a separate boot bag will be checked as one piece for charging purposes, under the following conditions:
- The separate boot bag may only contain boots/bindings
- The separate boot bag must not exceed total dimensions of 45 inches
Snowboard helmets are not counted as part of the snowboard equipment and must be checked in as part of the normal baggage allowance. Lighters or torches for applying snowboard wax are considered dangerous goods and are not allowed in your checked or carry-on baggage.

- Board boot bag: 45in/ 114cm (total dimension)
- Snowboard: 126in / 320cm
Surfboard
Maximum size and weight: 126in / 320cm and 32kgs / 70lbs.
The following transportation charge applies to surfboards over 62in / 157cm (length + height + width): $150.
Surfboards are exempt from oversize and overweight fees. If you are checking in a surfboard and two bags or more, an excess baggage fee will apply in addition to the transportation charge. Lightweight surfboards packaged in a single bag that weighs less than 32kgs / 70lbs will be accepted as a single surfboard for charging purposes.
Tennis Equipment
Tennis rackets and tennis balls.
You may carry your tennis equipment onboard if it fits with the carry-on size / weight requirement.
Wakeboard / Wave Ski
Maximum size and weight: 126in / 320cm and 32kgs / 70lbs.
The following transportation charge applies to wakeboard / wave ski over 62in / 157cm (length + height + width): $150.
Wakeboards and Wave Skis are exempt from oversize and overweight fees. If you are checking in a surfboard and two bags or more, an excess baggage fee will apply in addition to the transportation charge.
Windsurfing Equipment
One board, one mast, boom and sail.
Maximum size and weight: 126in / 320cm and 32kgs / 70lbs.
Transportation charge: $150.
Oversize / overweight fees do not apply to windsurfing equipment. If you are checking-in windsurfing equipment and two bags or more, an excess baggage fee will apply in addition to the transportation charge. The three components as described above count as one piece for the purpose of excess baggage.
