Travel Agent Base Commission
American Airlines is changing its travel agent base commission in Belgium and Luxembourg,
effective April 1, 2005.
In recent years, travel agencies have increasingly been charging their customers directly for
services rendered, often in the form of a mark up of a net fare provided by the airline or a
service or consulting fee. To reflect these realities, many airlines have already made changes
to travel agency commissions. Given the highly competitive market in which American Airlines
operates, it is not financially viable to sustain costs that exceed those of our competitors.
Accordingly, American Airlines hereby gives six (6) months notice of termination of the existing
Passenger Sales Agency Agreement (subsumed in IATA Resolution 824) with respect to your travel
agency locations in Belgium and Luxembourg. The notice period will start on 1 October 2004 and
the termination will become effective on 31 March 2005. We intend to offer to enter into a new
agreement with you reflecting changes in the remuneration and distribution system. Prior to the
foregoing termination effective date, we will send a new form of contract to you with specific
details for your consideration and approval.
American Airlines continues to value its relationship with travel agents in Belgium and
Luxembourg and looks forward to maintaining ongoing cooperative and productive relationships.
Yours sincerely,
Olga Jacob

Paper Ticket Fee
Effective immediately, the fee for a paper ticket issued on electronic ticket-eligible itineraries
through travel agents in Italy, Spain, Belgium and France is EUR 25, while the fee in the United
Kingdom is 25 GBP. The move follows other airlines that have introduced similar fees.
Today e-ticketing is offered through American Airlines' worldwide route network and on interline
itineraries with 21 other airlines, including all members of the oneworld alliance.
The fee shall encourage customers to use the convenient and secure e-ticket solution. Today more
than 90% of all American Airlines customers worldwide already travel by using e-tickets. The fee
does not apply if a customer is travelling on an itinerary that is not e-ticket eligible and
therefore has to use a paper ticket.
Since e-tickets neither can be lost nor stolen customers do not have to worry about this anymore.
Additionally e-tickets mean a significant reduction of administrative workload and costs to your
agency.
To collect the Paper Ticket Fee (PTF) agents are required to follow the outlined procedure:
- Issue a non-refundable MCO
- Cross reference the MCO to the ticket
- On the MCO the type of service box has to be filled out with "001 PTF paper ticket fee"
